Brown wins women's rowing title; W. Washington wins D-II crown

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. -- Brown captured its fifth NCAA women's
rowing championship Sunday at Melton Hill Lake, while Western
Washington claimed its third-consecutive Division II title.

Brown became the second squad in the meet's history to win the
national title without winning a race. The Bears finished with 58
points, four clear of second-place Virginia.

"What can I say? It's just so special," Brown coach John
Murphy said. "The competition gets tougher and tougher every year
and that is evident in all of the close finishes that we had this
weekend."

Western Washington used a dominating performance in each of the
grand finals to finish with 20 points, five ahead of UC San Diego.
