Gopher women's basketball team adds junior college guard

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota women's basketball team has
signed a junior-college guard for next season, Kay Sylva.

The addition of the 5-foot-8 Sylva, who played two years at
North Idaho College, was announced Wednesday. Sylva, whose maiden
name was Hill and was recently married, is a native of Salem, Ore.

Coach Pam Borton said she anticipates Sylva playing both guard
spots. As a point guard last season for North Idaho, Sylva averaged
11.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.2 steals while
shooting 51.9 percent from the field.

Gophers guard Breanna Salley left school last month after
appearing in 16 games in her freshman season.
