Manning to be grand marshal, wave Indy start flag

INDIANAPOLIS -- Colts quarterback Peyton Manning will be the
grand marshal of the Indianapolis 500 Festival Parade and wave the
green flag to start the race on May 27.

Manning was the most valuable player in the Colts' 29-17 victory
over Chicago in the Super Bowl.

"His performance in the Colts' run to the Super Bowl secured
his place among all-time Indiana sports legends, electrifying and
uniting the entire community in a blue wave of Colts' team
spirit," Indianapolis Motor Speedway president Joie Chitwood said
Wednesday.

The annual parade is May 26, and the race is the following day.

"I am very honored to have been asked to serve as the grand
marshal," Manning said. "I appreciate the grand tradition of the
Indianapolis 500 and am excited to participate in the festivities
surrounding the event."
