Rhode Island 69, LaSalle 66

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) -- Will Daniels scored a career-high 26 points to lead Rhode Island to a 69-66 win over La Salle Wednesday night in the Atlantic 10 opener for both.

Daniels scored 10 straight points at one stretch to help hold off La Salle (6-7, 0-1 A10), which nearly overcame a 22-point first-half deficit.

Daniels gave Rhode Island a 68-66 lead with 29.9 seconds left.

La Salle's Kahiem Seawright made a free throw with two seconds left to make it a 69-66 game. Rodney Green's 3-point attempt for LaSalle failed at the buzzer.

Ruben Guillandeaux finished with 13 points, all in the second half for LaSalle. Kimmani Barrett finished with 15 and Green and Darnell Harris had 10 apiece.

Rhode Island (8-7, 1-0 A10) began the second half with a 39-21 lead but La Salle scored the first nine points of the second. Rhode Island was ahead 58-56 with just over five minutes left when Daniels scored the next 10 Rhode Island points.

While La Salle tied it at 66-66 on a Harris 3-pointer, Rhode Island never trailed in the second half.
