Eagles sign QB Koy Detmer

PHILADELPHIA -- Koy Detmer failed to hook up with an
NFL team this season. But the quarterback will get to suit up
for the playoffs.

The Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday signed Detmer to serve as the
third quarterback behind Jeff Garcia and A.J. Feeley.

Philadelphia (10-6) closed the season with five straight
victories to win the NFC East title for the fifth time in six
years. The Eagles will host the New York Giants in the
wild-card round on Sunday.

Detmer, 33, spent his first nine years with the Eagles before
being cut in the preseason. He completed 52 percent of his
passes (185-of-354) for 1,944 yards and 10 touchdowns with 14
interceptions.

From 2000-05, Detmer served as the primary backup to Donovan
McNabb and made eight career starts. But the Eagles signed
Garcia in the offseason to back up McNabb and kept Feeley as the
third quarterback. That effectively squeezed out Detmer, who
did not sign with another team during the season.

McNabb tore his ACL in a November 19 game against Tennessee and
Garcia took over as the starter, leading the Eagles to a 5-1
record.

Philadelphia cut cornerback Bruce Perry to make room on the
roster for Detmer.
