Browns place FS Russell, DE Roye on IR

BEREA, Ohio - The Cleveland Browns on Monday placed
free safety Brian Russell and defensive end Orpheus Roye on
injured reserve, officially ending their seasons.

Russell has been battling an elbow injury while Roye is
sidelined with a knee injury.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Monday that Russell has been
hospitalized since Thursday with a possible staph infection.
The team could not confirm the report.

Russell, who had staph removed from his elbow in September,
started the first 12 games for the Browns this season,
registering 51 tackles and one interception. He missed
Thursday's game against Pittsburgh.

Roye started nine games at left defensive end this season,
collecting 38 tackles and one sack.

To replace Russell and Roye on the roster, the Browns signed
defensive lineman Orien Harris and safety Ben Emanuel.
