CLEVELAND -- Chris Jent, who had a brief stint as an NBA coach, has been named director of player development and assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers made the announcement Wednesday, hours before their season opener against the Washington Wizards. Jent, 36, coached the Orlando Magic for the final 18 games of the 2004-05 season, going 5-13.
"We're very fortunate to add a person of Chris Jent's caliber to our team," Cavaliers coach Mike Brown said. "Chris is a very hard worker who knows the NBA well. He has been a great fit with us and worked well with our team during training camp. We can now look forward to Chris' contributions throughout the season."
Jent spent the 2003-04 season with the Philadelphia 76ers as an assistant responsible for player development before joining Orlando the following season.
An alumnus of Ohio State University, he played pro basketball for 10 seasons on three continents and was a member of the 1994 NBA champion Houston Rockets.
