First there was Carl Lowrance's "Little Green Box." A decade or so later, the paper graph recorder delivered a new dimension of underwater detail to bass anglers. Then liquid crystal recorders made paper units virtually obsolete, far surpassing them in convenience and, later, in clarity and detail.

"So what's next?" asks the annoying, non-fishing critic of the sport, someone with whom you're unlucky enough to be having dinner or conversation. "Pretty soon you bass fishermen will have cameras that show you where the fish are."

Of course, such devices already exist, and they'll even show real-time footage of a bass slamming your spinnerbait or inhaling your soft plastic stickbait. Even with all that, underwater camera sales still pale in comparison to GPS units.
