Lowe can record seventh win in eighth decision for Dodgers

CHICAGO -- Derek Lowe has been one of the consistent
bright spots in an inconsistent stretch for the Los Angeles
Dodgers.

Lowe gets the call Tuesday as the Dodgers look to widen their
edge in the National League West Division in the opener of a
three-game series against the Chicago Cubs.

The NL Pitcher of the Month in August, Lowe (14-8, 3.64 ERA) has
won six of his last seven decisions. He comes off one of his
best outings of the year when he yielded just one unearned run
and three hits in eight innings Wednesday against the Milwaukee
Brewers.

Los Angeles has split its 10 contests in September. After
Thursday's shutout loss to the New York Mets, the Dodgers took
two of their last three games, including Sunday's 9-1 victory.

Nomar Garciaparra homered and drove in four runs, Rafael Furcal
collected three hits and Kenny Lofton added a three-run triple
for Los Angeles, which has lost two of three to the Cubs this
year.

Chicago calls upon Sean Marshall (5-9, 5.27), who makes his
third start since going on the disabled list July 23 with a
strained left oblique. Winless since July 5, he allowed five
runs and seven hits in four frames without getting a decision
Thursday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Derrek Lee belted two homers and Jacque Jones added a three-run
blast as the Cubs notched just their fourth win in 22 games with
Monday's 8-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves.
