Man accused of killing player returned to jail

BATON ROUGE, La. -- A man accused of killing a University of
Southern California basketball player on May 13 has been returned
to jail after a judge denied bond stemming from another arrest.

DeAnthony Ford, 19, was booked on counts of illegal use of a
weapon and assault by drive-by shooting. Ford had been free on a
$300,000 bond following his arrest on counts of second-degree
murder and attempted second-degree murder in Ryan Francis' death.

Police said Ford was driving an SUV and pulled in front of the
car carrying Francis after recognizing the car's driver as someone
he had been involved in a dispute with earlier that night. Francis
was riding in the back seat when several shots were fired, police
said.

The charges for which Ford was denied bond on Monday stemmed
from an alleged incident in March that started with a fight in
front of a house and resulted in a gun being fired at the
residence, police said.
