Bobcats name Cory Carpenter as starting quarterback

BOZEMAN -- Cory Carpenter, who threw just three passes last
season in backing up Travis Lulay, is the starting quarterback at
Montana State, coach Mike Kramer announced.

"Now my role is to stay as consistent as possible and do the
best job I can for the squad," Carpenter said Monday, after his
first practice as the starting QB.

Carpenter got the nod over Hawaii transfer Jack Rolovich.

"Sitting behind Travis was hard," Carpenter said. "I didn't
get any playing time, and that's hard. But there's only one
quarterback on the field at one time, and we all know that."

Carpenter completed 2-of-3 passes for 51 yards last season.

Kramer informed Carpenter and Rolovich of his decision on Sunday
night.

"It takes a little pressure off," Carpenter said.

Rolovich, a junior from Novato, Calif., is second on the depth
chart, Kramer said.

Montana State plans its final scrimmage of the fall on
Thursday.
