Chicago Cubs (48-66) at Colorado (55-59) 9:05 pm EDT

DENVER (Ticker) -- After a tough road trip against divisional
opponents, the Colorado Rockies will be happy to return home
to face the Chicago Cubs in the opener of a three-game series.

Colorado went 3-4 on a seven-game road trip. The Rockies took
two of three in San Francisco and then dropped three of four in
Los Angeles and are 3 1/2 games behind the first-place Dodgers
in the National League West Division.

The Rockies missed a chance to split the series as Ray King
allowed a solo home run to rookie Andre Ethier in the eighth.
After Todd Helton tripled and scored on an error, Jose Mesa gave
up a game-winning hit to Kenny Lofton.

Despite the losing trip, the Rockies are also just 3 1/2 games
behind Cincinnati in the wild-card race and have won 11 of their
last 18 games.

Colorado will start Aaron Cook (7-10, 3.95) in the series
opener. Cook has allowed four or more runs in five of his last
seven starts and is 1-3 with a 5.08 ERA in that span. The
Rockies have dropped 12 of Cook's last 14 starts, including
Sunday's loss in San Francisco. In that game, he lasted 5 1/3
innings and allowed five runs and nine hits.

Chicago dropped the final two games of its three-game series in
Milwaukee, but has still won 11 of its 17. In Thursday's 8-6
loss, Aramis Ramirez drove in three runs but Mark Prior lasted
just three innings.

The Cubs hope for a longer outing from Rich Hill (2-4, 6.69),
who has pitched very well since returning from the minors. After
lasting just 3 1/3 innings vs. St. Louis, he has allowed four
runs and 11 hits with 15 strikeouts over 15 innings in victories
over Arizona and Pittsburgh.
