Mackenzie the low qualifier at U.S. Women's Am

NORTH PLAINS, Ore. -- Paige Mackenzie, who helped the U.S.
team to victory in last month's Curtis Cup, shot a 1-under 70 on
Tuesday to finish 3-under after the second round of stroke-play
qualifying for the U.S. Women's Amateur.

Mackenzie, a Northwest favorite from Yakima, Wash., finished
with a 139 total as the top qualifier going into match play on the
par-71 Witch Hollow Course at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.

The low 64 qualifiers advanced to match play with a 36-hole
final scheduled for Sunday.

Tiffany Joh of San Diego and In Kyung Kim of Korea finished two
strokes back at 1-under 141.

Jane Park, 19, who played last year as a freshman at UCLA,
finished at even par after two days of qualifying, along with Ayaka
Kaneko of Honolulu and Korean Mi Jun Hur.

Park, who won the Amateur in 2004, was also a member of the
Curtis Cup team that defeated a team from Britain and Ireland at
Bandon Dunes Golf Club in Bandon, Ore.

Mackenzie, 23, just wrapped up her senior season at Washington.

Fellow Curtis Cup team members Amanda Blumenherst of Scottsdale,
Ariz., Taylor Leon, who plays at Georgia, Duke's Jennie Lee and
Jenny Suh, who plays for Alabama, also made the cut.

Among those who missed was local favorite Rebecca Kim, a
three-time Oregon prep champion who is headed for Duke.

Last year's Amateur was won by 17-year-old Morgan Pressel at the
Ansley Golf Club's Settindown Creek course in Roswell, Ga.
