Steelers sign director of operations Colbert to extension

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Steelers signed director
of football operations Kevin Colbert to a four-year contract
extension on Thursday.

Colbert was to enter the last year of his deal, but is now
locked up through 2010.

The same can't be said for coach Bill Cowher, who has two years
left on his contract.

Colbert took over as director of operations in February 2000 and
built the team that won Super Bowl XL last season.

"We are very pleased to have Kevin continue as an important
member of our front office for years to come," Steelers
president Art Rooney II said. "Obviously, he played a vital
role in our success over the past several years, including the
Super Bowl title last season."

In addition to overseeing operations, Colbert supervises all
player personnel and scouting decisions.

"I'm very thankful for the opportunity to remain with the
Pittsburgh Steelers," Colbert said. "My family and I are very
fortunate to be a part of such a special organization."

Prior to joining the Steelers, Colbert spent 10 seasons as
scouting director for the Detroit Lions.
