Avalanche sign forward Stastny, defenseman Klee

DENVER -- The Colorado Avalanche signed forward Paul Stastny
on Monday and agreed to terms with veteran defenseman Ken Klee.
Stastny, 20, a standout at the University of Denver for two
seasons, signed a multiyear contract with the Avalanche. Terms were
not disclosed, but the deal means Stastny will begin his
professional career with the same franchise as his father, Peter
Stastny, who signed with Quebec in 1980.
Stastny had 36 goals and 62 assists in just two seasons at
Denver.
"Paul brings a great deal of speed, skill and potential to the
organization," Avalanche general manager Francois Giguere said.
"Obviously his college accomplishments speak for themselves and we
look forward to watching him continue to develop."
Klee, 35, is entering his 12th NHL season after stints with
Washington, Toronto and New Jersey. The Avalanche are looking to
shore up the blue line after losing unrestricted free agent
defenseman Rob Blake to Los Angeles earlier this month.
"Ken gives us another strong, experienced defenseman," Giguere
said. "He has demonstrated year after year that he can be counted
on to take quality minutes and play a solid defensive game and
we'll be counting on him to do that for us this season."
