WASHINGTON -- Ben Clymer's initial impression with the Washington Capitals has earned him an extended stay.
The Capitals on Friday re-signed the left winger to a three-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Signed as a free agent last August, Clymer scored a career-best 16 goals and added 17 assists in 77 games this past season. His 13 even-strength goals ranked third on the team.
"We like the way Ben Clymer competes and admire the professionalism that he brings to our club," Capitals general manager George McPhee said. "He's a valuable player who is well-respected by his teammates and an important part of our future."
Appearing in 372 career games over six seasons with Tampa Bay and the Capitals, Clymer has recorded 45 goals and 109 points. The 28-year-old was a member of the Lightning's Stanley Cup-winning squad in 2003-04.
In another move, Washington signed free-agent left winger Pete Vandermeer. The 30-year-old posted six goals and 12 points along with 276 penalty minutes in 67 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.
In 447 career AHL games, Vandermeer has recorded 2,035 penalty minutes.
