Orioles call up Tatis

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Baltimore Orioles purchased the
contract of third baseman Fernando Tatis from Triple-A Ottawa on
Friday.

Tatis hit .298 with seven homers and 37 RBIss in 90 games for
Ottawa this season. He has a career average of .261 with 90 home
runs in 663 major league games.

To make room for Tatis, the Orioles outrighted utility player
Howie Clark to Ottawa. Clark went 1-for-7 in seven games after
being called up from Ottawa on June 16.

Baltimore also recalled pitcher Hayden Penn from his rehab
assignment and optioned him to Ottawa. Penn underwent an emergency
appendectomy on May 23.
