TOKYO, May 31 - Japan have drafted in Teruyuki
Moniwa to replace the injured Makoto Tanaka in their World Cup
squad, the Japan Football Association said on Wednesday.
Tanaka, who would have been a strong candidate to start in
Japan's defence, suffered a hamstring pull before the team
arrived at their World Cup base in Germany at the weekend.
Japan drew 2-2 with the World Cup hosts on Tuesday and play
Malta on June 4 in their final warm-up game.
The Asian champions take on Australia in their opening game
on June 12. Group F also involves Croatia and holders Brazil.
