Surging Red Sox seek four-game sweep of Devil Rays

BOSTON - Tim Wakefield has owned the Tampa Bay Devil
Rays throughout his 14-year career. The veteran knuckleballer
hopes to continue that success Sunday when the Boston Red Sox
attempt to complete a four-game series sweep of the lowly Devil
Rays.

The longest-tenured player on Boston's roster, Wakefield (3-6,
4.57 ERA) is 13-2 in 30 career appearances - 20 starts - against
Tampa Bay. He pitched eight strong innings but suffered the
loss in his last meeting with the Devil Rays on April 20.

Wakefield has struggled of late and looks to start turning
things around against a club that he has dominated. He logged 6
2/3 innings Tuesday, allowing seven runs, six hits and five
walks in a 7-5 loss to the New York Yankees.

But the Red Sox have looked outstanding during this series,
outscoring the Devil Rays by an 18-9 margin over the first three
games.

Curt Schilling pitched seven strong innings to record his 200th
career win Saturday and Mark Loretta had three hits to lead
Boston to a 6-4 triumph.

Tampa Bay gives the ball to Mark Hendrickson (3-4, 3.50), who
looks to exorcise his personal demons here at Fenway Park. The
6-10 lefthander is 0-3 with an 8.53 ERA in seven career
appearances - six starts - at Fenway.
