Braves 10, Padres 6

SAN DIEGO - Andruw Jones hit a pair of two-run home runs and Chipper Jones had four singles and scored three runs to lead the Atlanta Braves to a 10-6 win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night.

A night after Chipper Jones lamented the Braves' inability to score runs in San Diego, Atlanta worked over spacious Petco Park, Padres pitchers and catcher Mike Piazza.

Edgar Renteria also homered, Andruw Jones scored three runs and Adam LaRoche had three RBIss for the Braves, who took two of three from the slumping Padres. Taking advantage of Piazza's weak arm, Chipper Jones and Matt Diaz each stole two bases.

The Braves scored four runs in the first two games of the series.

San Diego lost for the seventh time in nine games.

John Thomson (2-3) went 7 1-3 innings for the win, allowing eight hits and six runs, four earned. He struck out three and walked one.

San Diego's Chris Young was knocked out after three innings, his shortest start of the year.

Young (3-3) fell behind 3-0 before he got two outs in the first inning. Renteria hit a solo homer into the home-run porch down the right-field line with one out, Chipper Jones singled and Andruw Jones ended his 71 at-bat homerless drought by going deep into the left-field corner on a full-count.

Chipper Jones singled leading off the third, and Andruw Jones hit Young's next pitch off the top of the fence in straightaway center field, above the 396 sign, for a 5-1 lead.

Andruw Jones has 11 homers this year. It was his second multihomer game this year and the 32nd of his career. Chipper Jones finished 4-for-5.

Todd Pratt hit an RBIs single with two outs in the third to make it 6-1.

Young allowed six runs and eight hits, struck out four and walked one.

The Braves added four runs against San Diego's bullpen. LaRoche hit a sacrifice fly off Brian Sweeney in the fourth, when the Braves left the bases loaded.

LaRoche added a two-run double off Jim Brower in the sixth, and Pratt had another RBIs single.

San Diego's Mike Piazza had two RBIs singles, including the hit that chased Thomson in the eighth. Brian Giles also had two RBIs singles for the Padres.
