Indians activate LHP Sabathia

CLEVELAND - For the first time in a month, the
Cleveland Indians had the services of pitcher C.C. Sabathia.
He did not disappoint.

Activated from the 15-day disabled list prior to the Indians'
matinee against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, the lefthander
allowed one run and five hits in five innings to pick up the
win in a 7-1 triumph over their American League Central Division
rival.

"I felt pretty good," Sabathia said. "I wanted to mix my
pitches up. I was able to throw my fastball well, which set up
my cutter."

The Indians placed Sabathia on the DL on April 3 after he
injured his right oblique muscle during an Opening Day start at
Chicago the previous day. He had allowed three runs and three
hits in just 2 1/3 innings before suffering the injury.

Sabathia made a rehabilitation start for Class AAA Buffalo
last Thursday, yielding two runs - one earned - and six hits
in five innings in a win over Syracuse.

The Indians cleared room for Sabathia by optioning pitcher Brian
Slocum to Buffalo after Monday's night's 8-6 setback.
