Indians recall Guthrie

CLEVELAND -- Reliever Jeremy Guthrie was recalled from the
minors Saturday to help the ailing bullpen of the Cleveland
Indians.

The Indians have three relievers -- Fernando Cabrera, Matt Miller
and Rafael Betancourt -- on the disabled list. Miller is expected to
miss the remainder of the season with an elbow injury. He is
scheduled to have surgery on Wednesday.

Guthrie spent all of last season at Triple-A Buffalo, and he was
2-0 with a 1.00 ERA in three starts for the Bisons this year. The
right-hander has made seven appearances for the Indians, who
drafted the 27-year-old in the first round of the 2002 draft.

To make room for Guthrie, the Indians optioned left-hander
Rafael Perez to Double-A Akron. Perez pitched one inning of hitless
relief in his major league debut on Thursday in Baltimore.

Guthrie was expected to join the Indians in time for their game
Saturday in Kansas City.
