KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- The Kansas City Royals are
making a run at another franchise-record losing streak. The
outlook for them breaking out of it Saturday does not look
good.

Without a win in their last 11 games, the Royals will face Paul
Byrd and the Cleveland Indians in the second of three contests
at Kauffman Stadium on Saturday.

The Royals, who established a franchise-record losing streak of
19 games just last summer, have managed just six runs in their
last four games. Now they have to contend with Byrd, who
pitched a two-hit shutout in his only previous start here on
July 1.

Byrd (2-1, 7.02) also is coming off his best start of the season
as he allowed two runs and four hits in seven innings of
Monday's 10-2 win over Detroit.

Also daunting for Kansas City will be Joe Mays' lack of success
in his career against the Indians. Mays (0-2, 11.68), who is
seeking the first win by Royals starter this season (0-9), has a
lifetime mark of 0-7 with a 5.85 ERA against the Indians.

Mays allowed eight runs and 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings of a 9-0
loss to the Chicago White Sox in his most recent start Monday.
It was one of nine games this season in which the Royals scored
three runs or fewer.

Jhonny Peralta capped a four-RBI performance with a
tie-breaking, three-run double in the seventh inning of
Cleveland's 6-5 victory here Friday. Despite scoring twice in
the ninth, Kansas City prolonged its worst start since it went
1-16 to begin the 1992 campaign.

Indians catcher Victor Martinez went hitless in four at-bats
Friday, ending his season-opening hitting streak at 15 games.
