Baker baffles Yankees as Twins roll

MINNEAPOLIS -- Scott Baker made a strong pitch to keep
his spot in the Minnesota Twins' rotation.

Baker tossed seven brilliant innings to lead the Twins to a 5-1
triumph over the New York Yankees.

A 6-4 righthander, Baker (1-1) was sharp in spring training and
beat out hard-throwing lefthander Francisco Liriano for the
fifth and final starting spot.

After struggling in his season debut at Cleveland last Saturday,
Baker was nearly flawless in this one, allowing one run and
three hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Justin Morneau, Lew Ford and Juan Castro had two hits apiece for
the Twins, who have won four straight after opening the season
1-5.

Yankees starter Mike Mussina (1-1) yielded three runs, six hits
and two walks with five strikeouts in 6 2/3 frames. The veteran
righthander fell to 20-5 lifetime against the Twins.
