Capitals sign former first-round pick LW Semin to two-year deal

WASHINGTON - Alexander Semin has been impressed by
the Washington Capitals' commitment to the future.

Semin ended his stalemate with the Capitals, signing a two-year
contract on Tuesday.

Returning to the fold, the 22-year-old left wing will team up
with possible Calder Trophy winner Alexander Ovechkin to form
one of the top young scoring duos in the NHL. Ovechkin became
just the sixth rookie to notch 100 points on Monday, scoring in
overtime in a 2-1 win over Boston.

"I'm truly happy to sign on with the Capitals for the next two
years," Semin said. "This team is young and daring, and I look
forward to be a part of the resurgence."

The 13th overall pick in the 2002 draft, Semin had 10 goals and
22 points in 52 games as a rookie with Washington in 2003-04
before playing the last two seasons in his native Russia.
