Mitre, Marlins seek second win of season

MIAMI -- Sergio Mitre authored the new-look Florida
Marlins' first victory of the season. On Tuesday, he will
look to post their second.

Mitre will be on the mound as the Marlins begin their home
schedule against the San Diego Padres in hopes of ending a
three-game losing streak.

Named Florida's No. 2 starter following an impressive spring
training, Mitre (1-0, 0.00 ERA) rewarded the club by allowing
just three hits and a walk in six scoreless innings of an 11-2
win at Houston on April 4.

The Marlins have managed just 10 runs in their other four games,
however, and produced just five hits in Sunday's 3-2 loss to
the New York Mets. Despite its most recent lack of offense,
Florida took a 2-0 lead into the seventh inning behind Dontrelle
Willis before David Wright tied it with a two-run triple and
won it with a sacrifice fly in the ninth.

Mitre and the Marlins will be opposed by Woody Williams (0-0,
0.00), who will be making his first start of the season after
working a scoreless inning of relief on Wednesday.

Like the Marlins, the defending National League West Division
champion Padres have managed just one win in five tries this
season. They are coming off a three-game home sweep at the
hands of Colorado in which they were outscored, 32-12.

Williams lost his most recent start here on August 17, allowing
six runs and six hits in five innings. It was his third
consecutive losing decision against the Marlins.
