Royals 6, Giants (ss) 3

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- With Mike MacDougal hurt, the Kansas City
Royals' bullpen has another vacancy and Kyle Snyder is trying to
pitch his way into the picture.

MacDougal has a strained muscle in his right arm and is expected
to miss at least a month. Snyder helped his cause to make the staff
on Sunday by throwing two perfect innings in the Royals' 6-3
victory over a split squad of San Francisco Giants.

Snyder, a 1999 first-round pick out of the University of North
Carolina, has had two shoulder surgeries and two elbow surgeries,
and missed both the 2001 and 2004 seasons.

"This is as healthy as I've felt in a long time," said Snyder,
who struck out two against the Giants. "My first couple of outings
were a little shaky, but I felt like I've really settled in."

Snyder gave up two runs without retiring a batter in his first
outing of the spring, but has given up only two runs in 6 2-3
innings since. In his past three appearances, he has allowed two
hits in four innings, while striking out five and walking none.

Snyder has been mostly a starter, but could earn a spot in the
bullpen.

"We'll see how it shakes out," he said.

The Royals took advantage of five San Francisco errors to score
two unearned runs.

Paul Bako had two RBIss for the Royals. Ruben Gotay, who rejoined
the team after playing for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball
Classic, had two hits and drove in a run.

Giants starter Jamey Wright gave up two runs, both unearned, on
two hits and three walks over four innings. Wright has not allowed
an earned run in nine innings in three appearances.

Kevin Frandsen hit a three-run homer in the third for San
Francisco.
