New Mexico (21-9) vs. Florida (21-8) 10:30 pm EST TUCSON, Arizona (Ticker) -- Two years after a first-round
meeting in the NCAA Tournament, 11th-seeded New Mexico and
No. 6 Florida face off in a rematch Saturday in the Albuquerque
Region. The Gators (21-8) knocked off the Lobos (21-9) in the first
round of this event in 2004, claiming a 68-56 victory on New
Mexico's home court. This Florida squad is the first in school history to reach 20
wins and has done so behind a quartet of seniors that average
nearly 44 points combined. Freshman Sha Brooks ranks second on
the club in scoring with a 13.9 average. Led by sophomore Dionne Marsh, who led them with a 15.4 scoring
average, the Lobos are making their fifth straight Tournament
appearance. They have not advanced to the second round since
2003. The winner will face either third-seeded Baylor or No. 14
Northern Arizona in Monday's second round.
