Boston U. 73, Stony Brook 68

BOSTON (AP) -- Kevin Gardner scored a career-high 27 points and
Corey Hassan added 22 as Boston University beat Stony Brook 73-68
on Sunday.

Gardner shot 9-of-14 from the field and 9-of-12 from the line to
help the Terriers sweep the season series with the Seawolves, who
lost their sixth straight. Hassan hit five 3-pointers.

Boston University (10-15, 7-7 America East) led by as many as 12
in the second half, but Antwan Hardy scored 16 of his 20 points in
the half, including a 3-pointer with 39.8 seconds to play, to pull
Stony Brook within 69-68.

The Terriers' Brian Macon sank two free throws with 25.9 seconds
left and Mike Popoko missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer.
Hassan made two more free throws in the closing seconds.

Popoko scored 16 points for the Seawolves (4-21, 2-12).

After Hardy's tipin gave Stony Brook a 27-25 lead with 3:44
remaining in the first half, Boston University closed the half on a
9-0 run to take a 34-27 halftime lead.

Hassan's 3-pointer with 3:16 remaining in the half gave the
Terriers the lead for good, 28-27. Gardner capped the stretch with
a free throw in the closing seconds of the half.
