Soccer-Italian Serie A reports

ROME, Feb 19 - Reports of Italian Serie A matches
played on Sunday:

CHIEVO VERONA 0 PALERMO 0

Palermo dominated the match, particularly during the first
half, but missed the best chance to break the deadlock when
Mariano Gonzalez volleyed Andrea Caracciolo's cross narrowly
over the crossbar four minutes before the interval.

FIORENTINA 1 LAZIO 2

Fiorentina had won 12 of their 13 matches at the Franchi
stadium prior to Lazio's visit, but fell behind in the 32nd
minute when Valon Behrami angled a shot past Bogdan Lobont.

Tommaso Rocchi extended the visitors lead with a diving
header early in the second half. Valeri Bojinov's superb
25-metre strike could not prevent Fiorentina slipping to fifth.

LECCE 0 REGGINA 0

Lecce dragged themselves off the bottom of the division
thanks to a dour draw against their fellow southerners, but
remain eight points away from escaping the relegation zone.

AS ROMA 1 EMPOLI 0

AS Roma equalled the all-time Serie A record of 10 wins in a
row, but had to do it without captain Francesco Totti, who was
stretchered off with a fractured ankle after 12 minutes.

Simone Perrotta grabbed a lucky winner in the 15th minute,
tapping home the loose ball after Empoli goalkeeper Sebastian
Cejas had fumbled a backpass.

SAMPDORIA 1 ASCOLI 2

Poised at 1-1 after goals by Ascoli striker Fabio
Quagliarella and Sampdoria midfielder Sergio Volpi, the match
swung in the 75th minute when striker Francesco Flachi was sent
off for protesting, leaving Sampdoria with 10 men. Igor Budan
headed the winner five minutes from time to halt Sampdoria's
charge for a UEFA Cup place.

TREVISO 0 PARMA 1

Parma moved four points clear of the relegation zone after a
14th-minute goal by midfielder Fabio Simplicio gave them the
points against bottom-placed side Treviso.

UDINESE 1 SIENA 2

A brace by striker Rey Volpato kept Siena in the mid-table
comfort zone. Udinese's consolation goal was scored from the
penalty spot by Vincenzo Iaquinta after a Daniele Portanova
handball but their performances still have to be turned round
under newly-installed coaching duo of Loris Dominissini and
Nestor Sensini.

Played on Saturday:

LIVORNO 0 INTER MILAN 0

Inter Milan followed up defeats against Fiorentina and
Juventus with another lacklustre performance. The closest they
came to scoring was when home keeper Marco Amelia dived to pluck
away the loose ball from the feet of on-rushing striker Obafemi
Martins. Livorno almost stole the win in stoppage time when
Cristiano Zanetti cleared a Cesar Prates header off the line.

MESSINA 2 JUVENTUS 2

Juve's march at the top of Serie A stuttered against
relegation-threatened Messina. Sriker Sergio Floccari was the
home side's hero, scoring at the beginning and the end of the
match to nick a point from the Italian champions, who equalised
through Zlatan Ibrahimovic and briefly held the lead when Adrian
Mutu converted a penalty after Ibrahimovic was tripped. Juve
played most of the second half with 10 men after Fabio Cannavaro
was sent off for a yellow bookable offence.

AC MILAN 1 CAGLIARI 0

Alberto Gilardino's 23rd-minute penalty after Filippo
Inzaghi had been pulled down in the box was enough to give Milan
their third win in a row and move them up to second in the
division, ten points behind Juventus.
