DILLON -- Travis Williams scored 22 points Friday to lead
Carroll College to an 88-66 victory over Montana-Western. Ross Gustafson added 16 points and seven rebounds for the
sixth-ranked Saints (23-3, 10-2 Frontier), who quickly jumped out
to a double-digit lead and held a 44-25 halftime advantage. Western (12-15, 6-5) opened the second half with a 7-0 run and
got within 44-31 after a basket by Jeff Graham with 17:48
remaining. Gustafson's basket with 15:24 to play was Carroll's first score
of the second half and put Carroll up 46-31. Charlie Cox, who led Western with 17 points, made two straight
3-pointers, and had an assist on a basket by Jeff Feenstra as the
Bulldogs rallied to within 48-39 with 11:49 to play. But Carroll answered with a 3-pointer by Jeff Hays, a basket and
a free throw by Williams and a 3-pointer by Sinan Guler to take a
57-39 lead with 10:51 remaining. Western could get no closer than 12 points the rest of the way. Hays added 13 points and Guler finished with 10 for the
league-leading Saints, who shot 61 percent from the field. Graham had 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists for
Western.
