Resigning midseason but staying doesn't help

Editor's note: Each weekend, ESPN analyst Jay Bilas helps set the table by providing his take on the college hoops landscape.

Eddie Sutton's medical leave
First, I wish Eddie Sutton nothing but the very best as he takes leave to address his personal issues. He has been one of the game's best coaches for decades, and he is a Hall of Fame coach in my judgment.

I realize we live in an opinion culture that is not conducive to thoughtful consideration, and I understand what is driving that. However, when Eddie Sutton took a medical leave from Oklahoma State and it was determined that he would assume the team's record going forward, it seemed like everyone assumed that he was doing so to take the wins and inch ever closer to 800 career victories. It gave the impression that it was nothing more than a selfish grab at a coveted milestone.
