Second-seeded Coria falls in Copa Telmex

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- Spain's Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo
upset second-seeded Guillermo Coria of Argentina 7-6, 6-2 on
Wednesday in the second round of the ATP Copa Telmex clay-court
tournament.

Coria, the 2004 champion who entered the event as the top player
in the field after top-seeded David Nalbandian withdrew because of
a muscle injury, showed little of the clay-court play that has
carried him to No. 7 in the world.

"He really let loose and while it was a mistake not to take
advantage of some of his serving errors, he really played a fine
match," Coria said, "God willing, I'll be back next year and I'll
be able to play better tennis."

Ramirez Hidalgo will face fifth-seeded Carlos Moya of Spain.
Moya, the 1995 and 2003 champion, beat 2002 winner Nicolas Massu of
Chile 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4).

"It's incredible," Moya said after the close victory. "(He)
could have won just as easily. But things went my way and I had the
luck of the tiebreak going in my favor."

Ramirez Hidalgo, seeking his first ATP Tour title, reached the
semifinals last week in Vina del Mar, Chile.

"I'm really pleased," the Spaniard said. "It was a good match
and now I'm going to savor this victory and tomorrow start on
another match."

In other second-round matches, sixth-seeded Filippo Volandri of
Italy beat Tomas Behrend of Germany 3-6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (2), and
Serbia's Boris Pashanski defeated Spain's Alberto Martin 3-6, 7-6
(5), 6-3. In a first-round match, Costa Rica's Juan Antonio Marin
beat Romania's Razvan Sabau 6-1, 6-1.
