Former Packers coach Sherman joins Texans' staff

HOUSTON - Former Green Bay Packers coach Mike Sherman
is joining Gary Kubiak's staff.

The Houston Texans named Sherman as assistant head coach/offense
on Wednesday.

After being fired by the Packers on January 2, Sherman
interviewed for the coaching position with the Buffalo Bills and
New Orleans Saints. However, he ended up settling for an
assistant's job.

Sherman compiled a 57-39 record with the Packers, guiding them
to four playoff appearances and three division titles in six
seasons.

Green Bay finished in last place in the NFC North with a 4-12
record in 2005, but it was a season riddled with injuries. Wide
receiver Javon Walker and running backs Ahman Green and Najeh
Davenport were among those who finished the season on injured
reserve.

The Texans fired coach Dom Capers on January 2, one day after
finishing a 2-14 season with a loss at San Francisco. They hired
Kubiak on January 22.
