UTEP 77, Southern Miss 72 (2OT)

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) -- John Tofi scored a career-high 30
points and Kevin Henderson had six of his 11 points in the second
overtime to help Texas-El Paso beat Southern Mississippi 77-72 on
Saturday night.

Henderson broke a 66-all tie with a basket with 3:23 left in
double OT and hit a 3-pointer 49 seconds later, and the Miners
outscored Southern Miss 13-8 during the extra period to claim their
second straight victory.

Edgar Moreno added 11 points for UTEP (15-6, 8-1 Conference
USA), Will Kimball added 10 points and Tofi had 10 rebounds.

Southern Miss (8-16, 2-7) was trying for its first two-game
C-USA winning streak in a year, but UTEP used a 13-4 rally in
regulation to overcome the Golden Eagles' nine-point lead.

Southern Miss forced the first overtime on Jarekus Singleton's
basket at the buzzer.

Both teams had chances in the first OT, but Kyle Lamonte missed
a jumper with 38 seconds left and Moreno missed a 3-pointer at the
buzzer.

Courtney Beasley led the Golden Eagles with 17 points. David
Cornwell added 16 points, Chris Craft scored 11 and Travis Hall and
Singleton each had 10.

UTEP was 33-of-48 from the free-throw line, while Southern Miss
made just 8-of-14 foul shots.

It was the third overtime game for each team this season, with
UTEP improving to 2-1 while Southern Miss fell to 1-2.

It was the first meeting between the schools since 1968.
