SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The San Jose Sharks signed leading-goal
scorer Jonathan Cheechoo and goalie Evgeni Nabokov to contract
extensions on Tuesday, keeping both from becoming free agents at
the end of the season.
Cheechoo received a five-year extension while Nabokov got four
years. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The 25-year-old Cheechoo was set to become a restricted free
agent. He has 32 goals and 53 points this season.
Since entering the league in 2002-03, Cheechoo has 69 goals and
116 points in 200 games.
The 30-year-old Nabokov was slated to become an unrestricted
free agent. He is 14-15-6 with a 2.95 goal-against average.
