JACKSON, Miss. -- Former Alabama coach Mike DuBose landed
his first college head coaching job since being let go by the
Crimson Tide in 2000, taking over at Division III Millsaps College
on Friday.
DuBose was promoted from defensive coordinator to replace David
Saunders, who was hired as linebackers coach at Mississippi.
The 53-year-old DuBose was Alabama's coach from 1997-2000. He
was the Southeastern Conference coach of the year in 1999, leading
Alabama to the SEC title and an Orange Bowl berth.
But he was forced from his dream job a year later in amid a
sexual harassment complaint, an NCAA investigation and a miserable
3-8 season.
He was out of football in 2001, then coached the next three
seasons at two high schools in Alabama. Last season, Millsaps, a
Methodist college in Jackson, put him in charge of the defense.
Millsaps finished 2-7 with the worst total defense in the
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, allowing an average of
389.4 yards.
