Saint Joseph's 54, Saint Louis 39

ST. LOUIS -- Abdulai Jalloh and Dwayne Lee scored 12 points
each to lead Saint Joseph's to a 54-39 win over Saint Louis
University in Atlantic 10 play Wednesday night.

Chet Stachitas added 11 points for the Hawks (8-8, 3-4), who
have won two straight.

Saint Joseph's suffocated the Billikens defensively, as Saint
Louis made just 12-of-42 shots (28.6 percent). Ian Vouyoukas, who
entered the game as the Billikens' leading scorer with a 14.4 point
average, did not hit a shot until 2:27 remained and was held to
five points.

The 39 points were the fewest for Saint Louis since Jan. 5,
2000, when the Billikens lost 56-38 to Marquette.

Tommie Liddell led Saint Louis (9-9, 3-3) with 15 points as the
Billikens continued their season-long pattern of following a win
with a loss.

Saint Joseph's scored 11 of the last 13 points to end the first
half, then picked up right where it left off by scoring the first
10 points of the second half to take a 44-19 lead. Lee fueled that
10-0 run with six points.

Meanwhile, Saint Louis was having trouble scoring at all. The
Billikens' went more than 12 minutes without scoring until Liddell
made a runner with 14:02 left, drawing a loud, sarcastic cheer from
the crowd.

The two schools had never met before Wednesday, but Saint
Joseph's looked right at home at the Savvis Center, as the Hawks
hit their first seven shots and took a 17-6 advantage. The
Billikens began to chip away after that, with Luke Meyer cutting
the deficit to six at 23-17 with 8:05 left in the half when he
scored five straight points.

But the Billikens would only score two more points the rest of
the half, as the Hawks went on an 11-2 run to take a 34-19 lead
into the intermission.
