Bruins claim G Anderson from Blackhawks

PHILADELPHIA - The cluttered crease of the Boston
Bruins just got a little more crowded.

With injuries to their top two goaltenders, the Bruins on
Thursday claimed Craig Anderson off waivers from the Chicago
Blackhawks.

The Calder Trophy winner in 2004, Andrew Raycroft missed five
games earlier this season with a hamstring injury and currently
is sidelined with a leg ailment. However, the 25-year-old has
been less than impressive when healthy, posting a 7-16-2 record,
3.68 goals-against average and .882 save percentage in 25
games.

Hannu Toivonen, a first-round pick in 2002, has performed
considerably better, going 9-5-4 with one shutout, a 2.63 GAA
and a .914 save percentage in 20 contests. But the Finnish
rookie currently is on injured reserve with a sprained ankle.

Reduced to rookies Tim Thomas and Jordan Sigalet as goaltending
options, the Bruins pounced on Anderson, who was placed on
waivers by the Blackhawks on Wednesday.

A third-round pick in 2001, Anderson has struggled with Chicago,
posting a 2-8-1 record with a 3.90 GAA and .866 save percentage
in 14 games. The 24-year-old Illinois native has appeared in
41 contests with the Blackhawks over the last three seasons,
going 8-25-2 with one shutout, a 3.34 GAA and an .886 save
percentage.
