DETROIT - The Detroit Tigers signed righthander Matt
Mantei to a minor league contract on Tuesday.
Plagued by arm problems most of his career, Mantei has been on
the disabled list at least once in five straight seasons,
including last year when he was with the Boston Red Sox.
Mantei, 32, was 1-0 with a 6.49 ERA in 34 appearances with the
Red Sox.
Mantei owns a career record of 14-18 with 93 saves and a 4.07
ERA in 315 games. The former closer started his career with the
Florida Marlins.
