ATP tennis event moving from Arizona to Nevada

LAS VEGAS -- The ATP Tour's Tennis Channel Open will move
from Arizona to southern Nevada, event sponsors said Tuesday.

"The vision is to create a sort of 'Tennispalooza' ... and
televise the heck out of it," said Steve Bellamy, president of the
Santa Monica, Calif.-based cable network.

The tournament will begin Feb. 27.

The city of Las Vegas and Las Vegas Events, a promoter funded by
the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, combined on the
bid to host the tournament at a recently opened tennis facility in
northwest Las Vegas.

The Amanda and Stacy Darling Memorial Tennis Center is part of a
$41 million park with a 2,200-seat tennis stadium and 23
surrounding courts.

Las Vegas was one of nine cities bidding for the tournament,
which had been played in Scottsdale, Ariz., since 1986.
