Soccer-Klinsmann clears the air with defender Woerns

HAMBURG, Germany, Oct 12 - Germany coach Juergen
Klinsmann held a 30-minute meeting with Christian Woerns on
Wednesday to defuse a row over the defender's omission from the
squad.

"We had a very pleasant discussion," Klinsmann said after
sitting down with the 33-year-old centre-back who plays for
Borussia Dortmund. "The misunderstandings have been corrected."

Woerns complained to the media about losing his place for
matches away to Turkey, which Germany lost 2-1 on Saturday, and
against China in Hamburg on Wednesday.

According to reports, he also complained directly in an
angry telephone call to Klinsmann in California.

The 2006 World Cup hosts have not kept a clean sheet since a
3-0 win over Tunisia in the Confederations Cup in June.

They have conceded 16 goals in seven games since, with
Klinsmann using three different players alongside his first
choice Per Mertesacker in the centre of defence.

Woerns, who has 66 caps, played in two of those games, a 2-2
draw with the Netherlands and a 2-0 defeat by Slovakia.
