BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) - Following a difficult loss to open
the season, the Boston Bruins will try to bounce back Friday
when they visit the Buffalo Sabres.

The Bruins appeared headed to overtime at home against the
Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday, but a late hooking penalty on
forward Tom Fitzgerald gave the Canadiens a late power-play
opportunity.

Montreal, which was winless (0-3-3) in its last six
regular-season meetings with Boston, converted when Michael
Ryder scored with 11.1 seconds left, sending the Bruins to a 2-1
loss.

Patrice Bergeron scored for Boston, which outshot its opponent,
30-21. Andrew Raycroft, the 2004 Calder Cup winner, made 19
saves and will be called upon to help slow down the Sabres, who
opened their season with a 6-4 win over the New York Islanders.

Daniel Briere had two goals and one assist, including the
game-winner in the third period for Buffalo. Recently named
co-captain with Chris Drury, Briere picked up goalie Ryan
Miller, who allowed a soft goal just 45 seconds before Briere's
second tally.

In earning his first win since the 2002-03 season, Miller made
22 saves and watched his team dictate the play. The Sabres
outshot the Islanders, 39-26.

With the effort, Buffalo avenged a 6-0 loss to New York on
October 11, 2003, the worst Opening Night loss in team history.
