Soccer-Bundesliga match reports

BERLIN, Oct 1 - Brief reports of Bundesliga
matches played on Saturday:

HERTHA BERLIN 1 WERDER BREMEN 2

In the battle for second place, Bremen scored twice in the
last five minutes to dash Berlin's hopes of gaining revenge for
pipping the capital city side to third spot and the final
Champions League berth at the end of last season.

Tim Borowski and Nelson Valdez struck in the 85th and 89th
minutes after Hungary midfielder Pal Dardai had put the hosts
ahead in the 48th minute with his first goal of the season.

BAYERN MUNICH 2 VFL WOLFSBURG 0

Even without Germany goalkeeper Oliver Kahn, playmaker
Michael Ballack and seven other top players, Bayern Munich were
able to bounce back from their first loss of the season against
Hamburg last week.

Roque Santa Cruz put Bayern in front and Lucio doubled the
lead in injury time for Bayern, whose four previous wins
including a Champions League victory over Club Bruges were all
1-0. Bayern have not lost a match or conceded a goal at home
this season. Bayern's third team goalkeeper Michael Rensing, 38,
played his first match since 2001.

BAYER LEVERKUSEN 1 ARMINIA BIELEFELD 1

Two days after exiting the UEFA Cup in the first round,
Bayer suffered further humiliation against lowly Bielefeld and
were fortunate to escape with a draw, although they were roundly
jeered by their home crowd.

Isaac Boakye put the visitors in front in the 58th minute
before Ukraine striker Andriy Voronin equalised six minutes
before the whistle when his shot defletcted off Carsten
Ramelow's back. Leverkusen's Dimitar Berbativ failed to convert
three relatively easy chances.

BORUSSIA MOENCHENGLADBACH 1 FSV MAINZ 0

Moenchengladbach celebrated their third consecutive win and
edged up to sixth place in the standings with victory over
Mainz, who are in deep in the relegation zone in 17th after just
four points from eight matches.

Defender Ze Antonio scored the winner in the 32nd minute to
give the hosts their first three-match winning streak since
March 2002.

EINTRACHT FRANKFURT 0 SCHALKE 04 1

Dane Soren Larsen's fourth goal of the season in the 64th
minute was enough to lift Schalke from fifth to fourth place
ahead of their league showdown at home to Bayern Munich in two
weeks' time.

Schalke, who played to a thrilling 2-2 draw at home against
AC Milan on Wednesday, displayed none of the vigour from that
Champions League tie but remain unbeaten in the league with four
draws and four wins.

HANOVER 96 1 MSV DUISBURG 1

Duisburg secured their first away point of the season while
Hanover's fourth successive match without a win left the
pressure mounting on Hanover coach Ewald Lienen, whose team were
jeered off the pitch after the whistle.

Jiri Stajner missed a penalty for Hanover in the 85th minute
after Michael Delura had put Hanover ahead on eight minutes.
Abdelaziz Ahanfouf equalised six minutes later after some sloppy
Hanover defending.

NUREMBERG 2 COLOGNE 1

Stefan Kiessling scored twice to lead Nuremberg to their
first win of the season and off the bottom of the table to take
pressure off coach Wolfgang Wolf.

It was Cologne's third defeat in a row, a disappointing run
for the newly promoted side who won three of their first five
matches.
