Nationals OF Guillen drops appeal, serves suspension

WASHINGTON -- Nationals outfielder Jose Guillen dropped his
appeal of a one-game suspension for an equipment-throwing tantrum
after an ejection and was to serve his penalty Saturday night.

Guillen was suspended by Major League Baseball on Friday. He
said he wanted to appeal the decision and played in that night's
game against the New York Mets.

During Washington's 6-3 win over the Mets on Sept. 14, Guillen
was called out on strikes in the fifth inning. Plate umpire Bill
Miller said Guillen cursed from the dugout and ejected him.

Guillen then threw a batting helmet onto the field, followed by
a few bats and a shinguard.
