Soccer-Basualdo persuaded to stay on at Universitario

LIMA, Sept 21 - Former Argentina international
Jose Basualdo has been persuaded to stay on as coach of Peruvian
club Universitario.

Basualdo resigned following Sunday's goalless draw with
local rivals Alianza Lima after tabloid newspapers published
rumours about his private life.

But Basualdo, who played in the 1990 World Cup finals,
changed his mind after the squad and the club directors gave him
their full support, a Universitario source who declined to be
identified said on Wednesday.

Universitario, who dominated Peruvian football in the 1990s
but have been hit by a severe financial crisis in the last few
years, are seventh in the second stage of the 2005 championship.

They finished as runners-up to Cienciano in the first stage.
