GLASGOW, Sept 21 - Scottish Premier League leaders
Hearts suffered their first defeat of the season when they were
knocked out of the League Cup 1-0 by basement club Livingston.

Hearts former striker Ramon Pereira, who hails from Spain,
showed his old club the exit when he struck in the 54th minute
of the third round tie to give his side a shock victory.

Celtic were the last club to reach the quarter-finals on the
night as they beat Scottish Premier League newcomers Falkirk 2-1
with substitute John Hartson nodding the winner in extra time.

Falkirk's Alan Gow had fired a fabulous opening goal in the
54th minute after robbing Chris Sutton on the halfway line and
embarking on a 45-metre run to beat Polish keeper Artur Boruc.

But Celtic levelled as another Pole, striker Maciej
Zurawski, slid home from 12 metres after 62 minutes following a
fine diagonal pass into the box by Shaun Maloney.

Wales striker Hartson headed a simple second goal four
minutes into extra time from six metres following a swerving
cross from the left by Japan midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura.

Hibernian won 2-1 at first division Ayr United after Derek
Riordan scored twice in three minutes just before the break.

Holders Rangers had required extra time to book their place
in the last eight with Tuesday's win over first division Clyde.

The SPL champions eventually triumphed 5-2 after being
locked at 2-2 in a fraught 90 minutes.

The quarter-final draw will be made on Saturday.
