Celtics guard Tony Allen has knee surgery

BOSTON -- Boston Celtics guard Tony Allen had a small piece
of cartilage removed from his right knee, and it's not know whether
he'll return in time for the season opener.

Allen had the procedure on Tuesday and will begin rehabilitation
immediately, but will probably miss training camp next month,
Celtics spokesman Jeff Twiss said. It's not clear if he'll be ready
for the start of the season on Nov. 2.

Allen, the 25th overall pick in the 2004 draft, started 34 games
as a rookie last season and averaged 6.4 points and 2.9 rebounds.
