Postillion stroke-play medalist by three

RICHMOND, Texas -- Kerry Postillion had a 70 on Sunday to
build a three-shot lead at the end of stroke play in the U.S.
Women's Mid-Amateur Championship.
The reinstated amateur from Illinois was the only player to
finish the first two rounds under par at 2-under 142. Postillion,
who retired as a professional in 1993 and was runner-up at this
event in 1996, will be the top seed in the match-play portion of
the USGA event for amateurs 25 and older.
Sri Lanka's Thuhashini Selvaratnam, Alabama's Kathy Hartwiger
and Tennessee's Dawn Woodard were tied for second at 145.
Woodard, who shot a record 4-under Saturday, followed with a 77.
Laura Coble of Georgia hit par to move into fifth place, four
strokes behind Postillion.
Two-time champion Carol Semple Thompson of Pennsylvania made the
cut with a 149. Defending champion Corey Weworski of California was
also among the top 64 to advance, finishing at 10-over 154.
Five players at 18-over-par 162 will vie for two match-play
berths in Monday's playoff.
