Starr captures second pole of season

RICHMOND, Va. -- Trying to make a late push in the
standings, David Starr put himself into a favorable starting
position.

Starr set a qualifying record en route to grabbing the top spot
for Thursday night's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series
Cheerios Betty Crocker 200 at Richmond International Raceway.

With eight races remaining, Starr is 10th in the standings, 397
points behind leader Dennis Setzer. He is just 117 points
behind Jimmy Spencer for fifth.

Driving a Chevrolet Silverado, Starr circled the 3/4-mile
raceway in 21.319 seconds at an average speed of 126.648 miles
per hour. He bested the year-old qualifying record of Jamie
McMurray, who turned a lap of 125.436 mph.

It is the second pole of the season for Starr, who also started
in front in Dover in June. He finished eighth in that event and
has yet to win in 17 tries this season.

Mike Skinner, seventh in the standings, qualified second in a
Toyota Tundra at 126.642 mph. He won the O'Reilly 200 at
Bristol Motor Speedway two weeks ago.

Second in the standings at 143 points behind Setzer, defending
champion Ted Musgrave also has a favorable starting position as
he grabbed the third spot in a Dodge Ram.

Jack Sprague, a winner here in 1998 and 2001, was fourth in a
Chevrolet. The Chevrolet of Nextel Cup Series star Kevin
Harvick rounds out the first five.

Setzer starts 20th in a Chevrolet.

Nextel Cup regular Tony Stewart, who won here in 2002 and 2003,
failed to qualify.
